About Maidencreek Church
About Us
Maidencreek Church is a vibrant community that seeks to support one another and the community in love through prayer, worship and fellowship. Our church is connected with Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and the United Church of Christ (UCC), two of the biggest mainline Protestant denominations. Today our community comes together from all walks of life. Our members are from all traditions, some never belonging to a church before. This diversity enhances our congregation by bringing the wonderful gift of new perspectives to our Pennsylvania German traditions. Our services blend traditional with contemporary elements.
What We Believe
Our beliefs align with our two parent churches, the United Church of Christ and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.
We believe in the triune God Creator, resurrected Christ, and the Holy Spirit. God works through God’s Word - revealed in the Bible, containing both Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament — calling us to care for one another, serve our neighbors, and providing mercy, hope, and joy through Jesus Christ today. We acknowledge that the Bible is God’s word revealed in history to many different contexts and realities that still touch us today. Therefore, we engage in study and discussion to understand the many ways how God’s word speaks truth to us today.
Created in God's Image
We believe that God created all human beings in God’s image — each person unique and valuable. Each person is called to be on a spiritual journey in search of God. A persistent search for God creates an authentic relationship with God, strengthening one’s faith and giving one’s life a purpose and direction.
Our Shortcomings
While we are made in God’s image, we also believe that we are imperfect. By choosing ourselves over God, neglecting our relationship with God, we are sinners. God judges and condemns how we hurt each other and God’s creation. For that reason, we urge each other to admit where we fall short. However, through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God shows us that God’s love is greater than our sin.
Sacramental Life
We believe that all who are baptized — past, present, and future —ultimately belong to Christ. The sacrament of baptism is a sign of God’s unwavering love for us; it is a sign of our connection as a community of faith.
We believe that all people of faith are invited to join Christ at Christ’s table for the sacrament of Holy Communion. Nobody will be rejected. During Holy Communion, we remember Christ’s life, death, and resurrection, and strengthen ourselves as we are reminded of Christ’s presence in our community and with us in our daily lives.
